Scottish National Antarctic Expedition 1902-1904: 1904, Falkland QV 2½d. blue tied by Falkland Islands 3 February 1904 cds to a Museo de la Plata postcard titled 'The Scottish yacht Scotia wintering in Scotia Bay, South Orkneys, March to November 1903 (trans.)' to Buenos Aires, with 8 signatures (Bruce, Brown, Wilton and Haymes from the Scotia, and Argentine scientists Szmula, Valette and postmaster Acuña) on the picture side and 'January 1904' in ms., two repaired corners, but a very rare card. This and the following 2 postcards represent a unique multi-signed trio. All are addressed to the daughter of Francisco 'Perito' Moreno, head of the Museo de la Plata in Buenos Aires (publisher of the Scotia postcard used for the multiple-signed examples), a major figure in the modern history of Argentina and instrumental in orchestrating the financial rescue of the Scottish National Antarctic Expedition. In return for this support, William Bruce, the Expedition leader, agreed to Argentine control of the Laurie Island Observatory, the establishment of an Argentine Post Office for the South Orkneys with 19 year-old Hugo Acuña as postmaster, and the deployment of a meteorologist and a naturalist. Not more than 20 cards with officers' signatures were sent from each stop at the Falklands, South Africa or Saint Helena.
